The Legacy of Mackenzie

After the voyage's of Alexander Mackenzie, towns, schools, and geographical features such as the Mackenzie River would be named in his memory.

In 1801, The book Voyages from Montreal to the Frozen and Pacific Oceans was published. Although the book was written in German and French, President Jefferson would obtain an American copy, and give it to Meriwether Lewis. This book by Mackenzie is thought to have inspired the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and would eventually be carried by Lewis every step of the Way to the Pacific Ocean.
